A STRANGE AND FEARFUL INTEREST: Death, Mourning, and Memory in the American Civil War

This moving exhibition drew on the Huntington’s collections of photographs and printed materials related to the Civil War, which claimed the lives of 750,000 Americans. A Strange and Fearful Interest contained 200 works, including photographs of American battlefield casualties, materials related to Lincoln’s assassination and remembrance, and the establishment of the Gettysburg National Monument.
